A little PPC goes a long way…

This was part of an overall approach with my children when they were young. It was just one example which I thought could help and support them to be the best versions of themselves, and doing it in a way that was simple, easily remembered and easily explained. Now, in their teens, I hear it being used and whenever that happens, I know it’s lodged in their minds, and will be used as a reference point when dealing with all that stuff that the world throws their way as they navigate through the journey we call adulthood.

So that’s paragraph one completed and I’ve yet to explain what it is. PPC stands for Practise, Patience and Confidence. It seems to have stood the test of time and can be applied to a whole host of things. Here’s how I broke it down:

Practise.

Being good at something never just happens. Take a look at any walk of life, and then look at those “at the top” of their game - whatever that is defined as. Every time, getting to that point is a consequence of doing things time and again until they are the best they can be, and then they get up the next day and do it all again, pushing that little bit harder - they practise and they focus. Some might be claim that people have natural talent, but being the best you want to be, and staying there, means you've got to practise and with stamina, which neatly brings me on to:

Patience.

Sometimes those PI (problem is) people get the better of you. Sometimes it's easier to just give up as it just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. It shouldn't be taking this long, should it? Maybe it’s just not for me. There is much merit in having that get up and go and wanting to fast track what you want attitude, but like most things in life, you have to be patient. Your time will come, assuming you keep practising, learning, stumbling, reflecting, and then going again. Whilst others might give up, you should not.

Confidence.

Such a powerful part of our DNA. The ability to learn the art of being confident is so important in helping set the tone. Believing in yourself, avoiding those pesky PI people and allowing yourself to dream and grab onto that little something inside that says: “I’ve got this; I can do this” will give you what you need to plough on through and make it happen. Not too much mind you, but enough to keep you in check and keep you believing.

The destination is not the only focus, the journey however is. All of this is - of course - wrapped around the philosophy of moving the debate to the decision, and then going on to deliver it. Yes, it’s a 3D thing.
